Scripture for Reflection and Preparation

1 Timothy 2:1-4
“1 First of all, then, i urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone,

Day 31: Religious Freedom is CRUCIAL for Liberty to exist!

Day 31

Sunday, October 28, 2012
prayer for
National renewal

Scripture for Reflection and Preparation

Romans 13:1-7
1 Everyone must submit to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except from god, and those that exist are instituted by god. 2 So then, the one who resists the authority is opposing god’s command, and those who oppose it will bring judgment on themselves. 3 For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad.
Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do good and you will have
its approval. 4 For government is god’s servant to you for good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, because it does not carry the sword for no reason. For government is god’s servant, an
avenger that brings wrath on the one who does wrong. 5 Therefore, you must submit, not only because of wrath, but also because of your conscience. 6 and for this reason you pay taxes, since the [authorities] are god’s public servants, continually attending to these tasks.
7 pay your obligations to everyone: taxes to those you owe taxes, tolls to those you owe tolls, respect to those you owe respect, and honor to those you owe honor.

additional Scripture
Daniel 6:10-12

Acts 17:24-31

Ask God to…

• Raise up leaders to resist any effort to force people of faith to violate their consciences in order to satisfy unbiblical social mandates

• Help our nation pass laws that are just from God’s perspective

• Give the church courage to resist any effort to force it to obey manmade laws rather than God

• Convict our nation’s leaders to work for religious liberty around the world especially in totalitarian nations

• Help you find ways to protect religious liberty in the United States and around the world

Scripture for Reflection and Preparation

Genesis 2:22-24
22 Then the lOrD god made the rib He had taken from the man into a woman and brought her to the man. 23 and the man said: This one, at last, is bone of my bone, and flesh of my flesh;
this one will be called woman, for she
was taken from man. 24 This is why a man leaves his father and mother and bonds with his wife, and they become one flesh.

Malachi 2:15-16
“15 Didn’t the one [god] make [us] with a remnant of His life-breath? and what does the One seek? a godly offspring. So watch yourselves carefully, and do not act treacherously against the
wife of your youth. “16 if he hates and divorces [his wife],” says the lOrD god of israel, “he covers his garment with injustice,” says the lOrD of Hosts. Therefore, watch yourselves carefully, and do not act treacherously.”

Hebrews 13:4

Scripture for Reflection and Preparation

Psalm 139:13-16

13 For it was you who created my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14 i will praise you, because i have been remarkably
and wonderfully made. your works are wonderful, and i know [this] very well.
15 My bones were not hidden from you when i was made in secret, when i was formed in the depths of the earth. 16 your eyes saw me when i was formless; all [my] days were written in your book and planned before a single one of them began.

Matthew 18:1-6
1 at that time the disciples came to Jesus and said, “Who is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” 2 Then He
called a child to Him and had him stand among them. 3 “ i assure you,” He said, “unless you are converted and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child—this one is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5 and whoever welcomes one child like this in My name welcomes Me. 6 “But whoever causes the downfall of one of these little ones who believe in Me—it would be better for him if a heavy millstone were hung
around his neck and he were drowned in the depths of the sea!

FAITH over Fear! (With great video!)

Most of us were scared of things when we were kids that we now find amusing.

We're no longer scared of them, so we look back and laugh.

Maybe it was your fear of the dark, like me.
(Of course, that could have had something to do with my dad's warped sense of humor...he would stand with his hand on the light switch and make a noise...when I'd reach for the switch, he'd grab my hand! Still makes me laugh at how good this was!)

For others, it was big dogs, spiders, and so on.

The point is you've grown out of them because you've realized as you've matured that those things are nothing to fear. You are bigger, stronger, smarter, more experienced and now you know how to get through those childhood fears (with the possible exception, according to my wife, of spiders).

Even today though, many still have fears.

For some of us, that fear shows up in many ways, and it's a generalized thing.

We fear stepping out. We fear the unknown. We fear failure. We fear rejection. We fear 'what might happen'.

Question: Why?

Why would we continue to fear these things?

Answer: Because we think incorrectly about them.

We think we're on our own. We think it's up to us. We think our lives, our fortunes, our futures are dependent on our own wisdom, ability, money, good looks, or whatever.

For many people, that's true.

But for a Christian, it's not.

The reason is that the Christian has a relationship with the God of the Universe in which He promises to love us, care for us, and have our back.

As we seek to honor, serve, and love Him, He promises to guide us, watch over us and bless us.

Read the words of Psalm 121:
1 "I look up to the mountains—
does my help come from there?
2 My help comes from the Lord,
who made heaven and earth!
3 He will not let you stumble;
the one who watches over you will not slumber.
4 Indeed, he who watches over Israel
never slumbers or sleeps.
5 The Lord himself watches over you!
The Lord stands beside you as your protective shade.
6 The sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon at night.
7 The Lord keeps you from all harm
and watches over your life.
8 The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go,
both now and forever."

Jesus promised that if we "seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness" that "all these things will be given to you" (your needs will be met)(Matthew 5:33).

So, let me ask you:

Do you BELIEVE it?

Do you believe that God is 'for you', and that He wants to watch over and bless you, meeting your needs and protecting you?

If not--at your core--you definitely need to adjust your thinking!

Paul writes, in Romans 8: "What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us?...Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.”No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us." (Romans 8:31, 35-37)

You need not fear!

As one preacher said, "I have no fear of what the future holds; I know Who holds the future".

Is God calling YOU to step out today? Is He moving you to exercise FAITH?

If so, have no fear!

God is for you!

Appetites That Control...

I am AMAZED at the strength of my appetite!

My cravings...my desires...I always knew I had them, but it wasn't until I made a commitment to abstain from them that I realized how powerful they had become.

For example, all who know me will not be shocked to hear that I like cookies.

In fact, I think it's fair to say that I have a STRONG desire for cookies--especially chocolate chip!

When those cookies are in the jar, I always know they're there. I playfully say that they're calling out to me. In fact, almost every time I walk by it, I'll take one, 'just because I can'...and therin lies the problem.

When I (or you) give in to our desires frequently, we make those desire part of our 'Soul DNA'--the core of who we are.

Even more importantly: The mentality and thought processes behind this action can be part of our 'Spiritual Core', and that can be bad news. The mentality behind the cookie jar can often be "I want it, I deserve it, it would make me happy, therefore, I'll take it."

This is Spiritual Foolishness which leads not to freedom, but to imprisonment.

These cookies (or fast food, or spending, or sports, or lust, or drink, or anything else that can be an 'appetite' of our desires) can become serious spiritual problem! They become our 'act of worship' to our idol: The idol of Self Indulgence!

As Paul writes to the Romans: "Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires." (Romans 8:5)

We need to STOP GIVING IN!

We don't want to 'indulge', just because we have 'freedom in Christ'. We are of the Spirit! We don't want to settle for giving in to mere 'appetites of the flesh'! We don't want our appetites to become our idols!

So, we MUST aggressively take charge of those appetites--BEFORE they become idols, and strongholds of the enemy in our lives!

As the Paul writes to the Corinthians, run the race to win!

"Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air. No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize." (2 Corinthians 9:24-27)

So, let's encourage each other: DON'T let your appetites (even for things that are 'allowable') to drive you. Don't let 'desires' become 'demands'!

God wants you and I to live in freedom and liberation!

Let's keep ourselves in check, so that He may lead us there!

Day 21, Oct. 18: Christians, be Spirit-Filled!

Day 21 Thursday, October 18, 2012

prayer for
National revival

Scripture for Reflection and Preparation

Ephesians 4:18-21 “18 They are darkened in their understanding, excluded from the life of god, because of the ignorance that is
in them and because of the hardness of their hearts. 19 They became callous and gave themselves over to promiscuity for the practice of every kind of impurity with a desire for more and more. 20 But that is not how you learned about the Messiah, 21 assuming you heard Him and were taught by Him, because the truth
is in Jesus.”

Romans 8:13-17 “13 for if you live according to the flesh, you are going to die. But if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds
of the body, you will live. 14 all those led by god’s Spirit are god’s sons. 15 For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we
cry out, ‘abba , Father!’ 16 The Spirit Himself testifies together with our spirit that we are god’s children,
17 and if children, also heirs—heirs of god and co-heirs with Christ—seeing that we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him.”

Galatians 5:24-25

‘Brothers, what must we do?’ 38 ‘repent,’ peter said to them, ‘and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus the Messiah for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is for you and for your children, and for all who are
far off, as many as the lord our god will call.’ 40 and with many other words he testified and strongly urged them, saying, ‘Be saved from this corrupt generation!’ 41 So those who accepted

Scripture for Reflection and Preparation

Philippians 2:5-7a “5 Make your own attitude that of Christ Jesus, 6 who, existing in the form of god, did not consider equality with god as something to be used for His own advantage. 7 instead He emptied Himself by assuming the form of a slave, taking on the likeness of men.
and when He had come as a man in His external form, 8 He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death—even to death on a cross.”

1 Timothy 3:8-13 “8 Deacons, likewise, should be worthy of respect, not hypocritical, not drinking a lot of wine, not greedy for money,
9 holding the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience. 10 and they must also be tested first; if they prove blameless, then they can serve as deacons. 11 Wives, too, must be worthy of respect, not slanderers, self-controlled, faithful in
everything. 12 Deacons must be husbands of one wife, managing their children and their own households competently. 13 For those who have served well as deacons acquire a good standing for themselves, and great boldness in the faith that is in Christ Jesus.”

The Need to be Kneaded

I'll admit it...I LOVE cookie dough! (O.K., I 'really enjoy' it.)

I like to put all the ingredients together, stirring in lots of chocolate chips, and then...to mix it all in really well, I reach in (clean hands, of course) and knead it.

Kneading--the process of "Working into a uniform mixture by pressing, folding, and stretching" and mixing is necessary for a well made cookie, cake, or bread.

...but what does the dough feel like? What to the ingredients experience? (I know, dough has no feelings...work with me here!)

Kneading has GOT to be tough on the dough! The ingredients are all being mashed together in a decidedly UN-comfortable way.

If it were possible, it might even be painful for them.

However, the ingredients will never reach their fullest, sweetest potential if they choose instead to remain comfortable in thier separate containers.

They have to submit to the kneading of the baker!

In the same way, if we are ever going to reach our fullest, greatest potential, we are going to have to submit to the 'kneading' of the Lord.

As the Scriptures say, "God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns." (Philippians 1:6)

But in our experience, like the dough, it can be tough.

The best thing for us to do? Submit to it, and let Him continue that work!

This past Sunday, dozens and dozens of KCCers responded by coming forward, indicating that they want 'revival' in their hearts and faith, their families, this church, and their country.

If that was you, I want to encourage you: SUBMIT YOURSELVES TO GOD!

Let Him continue His work in you! Let Him show you the parts of your life that need to change, and let Him take you to 'the next level' of faith!

Don't sit back, don't try to be 'safe, sound, and comfortable'.

If you want to be made into your 'fullest, sweetest potential', you need to let Him continue His work, and to willingly and enthusiastically go along.

You need to be kneaded!

And so do I!

Following Jesus...together,

Dave

A Taste of Something Good...

Picture this:

It's Thanksgiving day...around noon. Lots of activity, getting ready for family and dinner. The turkey's been cooking for a couple of hours, the snacks are out, and the smell of wonderful dinner getting ready is filling the air.

When it's time to cut the turkey up, that's often my job. Because of that, I have a priviledge...I often get the first taste. Just a taste...Mmmm!

I LOVE getting 'just a taste' of things being made, while they're in the process of being made..."Just a Taste", I'll say. Whether it's turkey on Thanksgiving day, or chocolate chip cookie dough before it goes in (I know, I know...). What a treat!

Well, yesterday a BUNCH of people @ Kalamamazoo Community Church got 'just a taste' of what it feels like to be stirred by the Lord...to be renewed and revived!

I have to tell you, as a Pastor, when I'm calling for a response, I never know what I'm going to see...will it be one or two people? Will anyone respond? Yesterday, the majority of the church responded (including a bunch I did not expect)!

It was awesome and beautiful to know that the Lord had touched the hearts of everyone who came forward, and motivated them to get out of their seats, come to the front and say YES! I'm ready for Revival! I want the Lord to take me to the next level of faith! I need to be renewed, and I realize that I've ____(fill in the blank) gone cold, become apathetic, compromised my faith, etc.

It seems that there are a lot of people who are hungry!

...to which the Word of God says "Taste and see that the Lord is good! Happy are those who take refuge in Him!" (Psalm 34:8)

So, what about you?

If you're a KCCer, were you one who came to the front?

If you're not a KCCer, or you didn't, let me just ask you: Are you hungry and thirsty for more in your relationship with God? Do you realize that you've 'grown cold' in your faith, and want a taste of the Lord and the passion that loving Him brings?

The psalmist wrote, "As the deer longs for streams of water,
so I long for you, O God.
I thirst for God, the living God.
When can I go and stand before him?" (Psalm 42:1-2)

That is my desire...I, personally, thirst for God...but in this case, I don't want 'just a taste'...I want it all!

How about you?
